Where you live should be important to you. The people, the culture and the land all make up who we are and the places we live. With that in mind I felt that it was not only my obligation but my duty to help save our local beach.
As a resident of Tolchester, Maryland, a small community on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, I was drawn to the beautiful coast of the Bay that nestles itself right up to the Maryland farmlands. Along this coast is the Ohio Beach, aptly named because Ohio Avenue ends there. It's not a large beach - maybe fifty yards or so, but it is getting smaller everyday. What was once surveyed as a "tidal flood" zone in 1993 is now under water most of the time. With this kind of erosion there may be no beach left in 10, 20 or 30 years from now. Something must be done!
As a part of the Beach Committee, I lent my services the best way I knew how - to get the word out. We designed logos, a website and merchandise to make people aware of the problems and to stay abreast of what is happening and how they can help.
